Graduate Candidates: We hope you will join us in celebrating your accomplishment with your classmates, faculty, friends, and family by participating in the McCoy College Graduate Hooding Ceremony.
History of Hooding Ceremonies at Texas State
Prior to awarding doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees, Texas State University performed a university-wide hooding ceremony for all master's degree candidates before the traditional commencement ceremony. The hooding ceremony was a smaller, more personal setting with faculty, family, and friends. Each graduate was recognized by the reading of a short bio, and then a faculty member of their choosing placed the master's hood (academic regalia) on the graduate. When Texas State began awarding doctoral degrees, the hooding ceremony for master's degree students was eliminated.
To continue the tradition, the McCoy College began hosting its own hooding ceremony for graduate business candidates in 2010. This celebratory event brings together graduates, family, and guests.
For McCoy College Graduate Candidates
If you are a McCoy College graduate student graduating this semester you, your family, and friends are cordially invited to join us. We will notify graduate candidates of the RSVP process. You must register for this event in order to participate in the hooding ceremony.
A professional photographer will be available before, during, and after the ceremony. Prior to the hooding ceremony, students are invited to participate in a video in which they have the opportunity to thank friends, family, and faculty. The video is shown during the ceremony.
