Pre-Application Questions
I started my online application but changed my mind on which semester I want to apply for. What should I do?
You will need to complete a new online application. The system does not allow you to alter the semester you are applying for once you have completed the application and paid the required fee. If you've been accepted to a graduate program, however, you can request to defer your enrollment in the program by one (1) semester.
Grades that I earned in my early undergraduate career are much lower than my later years. Is this taken into account?
It is understood that sometimes a student’s undergraduate experience may begin slowly. The admissions committee considers your GPA from the last 60 hours of coursework.
What if my undergraduate GPA is not as high as I would like?
For students who have recently completed their undergraduate degree, undergraduate performance is often a good indicator of anticipated graduate performance. It is difficult to accept students into a graduate program who have a marginal undergraduate GPA and no work experience. The critical importance of your undergraduate GPA decreases as your work experience increases.
Post-Acceptance Questions
I’ve been accepted to a McCoy College graduate program but need to defer my start date. Can I do that?
Yes. Once you have been accepted to one of our programs you can defer your start date by one semester without having to re-apply. Please contact the Graduate College for more information.
Do McCoy College graduate programs accept transfer credit?
Yes, but with a few limitations. Any graduate courses you have taken resulting in a completed graduate degree cannot be applied to the MBA degree requirements. In other words, we cannot double-count courses. Any potential transfer credit must have been earned at an AACSB-accredited institution within the past six (6) years, and you must have completed the course(s) with a grade of B or better.
A maximum of six (6) transfer credit hours (2 courses) can be requested to apply to your MBA degree requirements. Transfer credits cannot be applied to or substitute for any of our MBA core courses; transfer credits can only be applied to elective course requirements.
My employer offers tuition reimbursement or educational assistance. Who should I talk to about the necessary forms?
For enrollment verification, you may contact the Registrar’s Office at 512.245.2367 or registrar@txstate.edu. To make payments or get a detailed list of tuition and fees, please contact Student Business Services at 512.245.2544.
What is your policy on sitting out a semester during the program?
It depends on the program. Some of our graduate programs (like the Flex MBA) offer a high degree of flexibility so sitting out, while not encouraged, is possible. If you are admitted to the program and then find you need to take a semester off because of job or family responsibilities, you may do so.
Other programs (like the Cohort MBA) require students to adhere to a predetermined schedule in order to complete the program in an expedited manner. McCoy graduate business programs have different policies. Please contact the program director for the program you are interested in and they can answer any questions you may have regarding their policy of taking a break while enrolled.
Is there a way to plan out my courses for the time I am enrolled in my program?
Full-Time Cohort students will be provided a course schedule at orientation. Flex MBA students are encouraged to request a meeting with the MBA academic advisor and all other programs are encouraged to meet with their program coordinators.
