International Applicants
Graduate Programs
We value the unique perspectives and experiences that international students bring to the graduate programs at the McCoy College of Business. International students are welcome to apply for any of our graduate programs.
The application process to the McCoy College graduate programs is slightly different for international students, who have additional testing requirements (see section below regarding the TOEFL / IELTS requirements). There may also be a different requirement regarding your transcripts, depending on where you earned your undergraduate degree.
English Language Proficiency Test
International Students are required to submit an approved English proficiency exam score from the TOEFL iBT, PTE, IELTS, Duolingo, or TOEFL Essentials.
The McCoy College of Business requires not only a minimum overall score, but also a minimum score on each of the individual components of the TOEFL and IELTS exams. Pay close attention to these requirements as it is possible to score above the required overall requirement, but below an individual component requirement and thus not qualify for admission.
- official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall and minimum individual module scores of
- 19 listening
- 19 reading
- 19 speaking
- 18 writing
- official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
- official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and
- minimum individual module scores of 6.0
- official Duolingo scores with a 110 overall
- official TOEFL Essentials scores with an 8.5 overall
Please note that the McCoy College of Business does not offer a conditional language or "bridge" program admission.
In certain circumstances, international applicants may be exempt from the English proficiency exam requirement based on their previous education in certain countries. Please visit the English Proficiency webpage for more information.
International Transcripts
All McCoy College graduate program applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
International students must submit two (2) versions of each transcript: one (1) in the native language, and one (1) that has been translated to English. For detailed information on acceptable translation services, please visit the Graduate College website. If your university issues transcripts in English, then only one (1) copy of the transcript is required.
While translating your foreign transcript into English is required, your native grade scale should remain intact. In other words, if your school used a grade system different than the 4.0 scale used in the United States, please do not attempt to convert your GPA to the U.S. equivalent. The Texas State Graduate College will evaluate your grades in their original format.
VISA, Residency, and Homeland Security Documents
Texas State University International Student and Scholar Services handles I-20 paperwork and related issues. Please contact International Student and Scholar Services directly for inquiries related to visas, residency, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security paperwork.
If you completed your undergraduate degree in a non-English speaking country, regardless of your residency or citizenship status, you may be required to submit internationally related items for admission.
