April 22, 2025

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University placed first in the 2025 District 10 American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) in Dallas, Texas, on April 11.
District 10 includes universities in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. This is the fourth time Texas State has won first since 2020.
The NSAC is the premier college advertising competition that provides more than 2,000 college students the real-world experience of creating a strategic advertising campaign for a corporate client. This year’s case competition was sponsored by AT&T.
This year’s team consisted of students from the Department of Marketing in the McCoy College of Business, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Communication Design program in the School of Art and Design.
“These students continued to do the little things right and challenged themselves to produce really great work,” said Dr. Michael Devlin, professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and NSAC team advisor. “I’m proud of our student leaders who demonstrated real commitment and leadership through this whole process. Our continued success is a result of our program’s dedication to developing a deep understanding of strategic and creative thinking among our students, which ensures they will be career-ready when they graduate.”
The team now advances to the semi-final round taking place in May. Fall semester advisors included Dr. Rick T. Wilson (Marketing) and Sage Baker (Advertising). Spring semester advisors include Dr. Devlin (Advertising) and DeeAnne Vickery (Advertising).
“I am truly proud of the interdisciplinary student and faculty team who worked diligently across colleges and across both semesters to produce the award-winning work that resonated with the client,” said Dr. Wilson. “This type of real-world experience is how McCoy College students set themselves apart from their peers on the job market.”
