November 3, 2022
SAN MARCOS, Texas — After conducting a national search, the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University has announced the selection and appointment of Dr. Mina Pizzini as chair of the Department of Accounting, starting January 2023.
Dr. Pizzini is an associate professor in Accounting and currently interim chair of the department. Having received her B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia, MBA from Dartmouth College, and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, she came to Texas State in 2014. She is a former CPA, and her work experience includes five years in auditing and corporate finance functions and serving on the faculties of the Naval Postgraduate School, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Pizzini’s research investigates determinants of management control system design and related performance effects. Her work is grounded in theory and motivated by issues that are of importance to managers and academics alike.
Her research has practical implications for compensation plan design, team incentives, wage policies, and internal audit structure and oversight. She has published articles in some of the top accounting journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting & Economics, and Accounting, Organizations & Society. She has also held multiple leadership positions in the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA).
In an email announcement to faculty and staff, Dr. Sanjay Ramchander, Dean of McCoy College, wrote: “Mina demonstrates leadership and service in various capacities, including stepping up to serve as interim chair of the department since August 2022. As interim chair, she has invested considerable amounts of time to learn and appreciate the many different administrative, personnel, and budgetary aspects of the department. These qualities will translate nicely as she steps into her formal appointment as department chair.”
Dr. Pizzini is committed to working collaboratively and constructively with colleagues in advancing the forward-looking priorities of the department and the college. These include supporting enrollment growth in the undergraduate and graduate programs, achieving programmatic emphasis and distinction, supporting faculty excellence in both teaching and research, instituting market-driven curriculum transformation, fostering student success, and strengthening relationships in the business community.
“The development of the college’s strategic plan offers Mina and her colleagues an excellent opportunity to further define, clarify, and amplify the contributions of the accounting department,” Dean Ramchander wrote. ✯
