Digital Marketing Strategist, McCoy College of Business

Dr. Aindrila Chakraborty joined the McCoy College of Business in 2018 as an assistant professor in computer information systems and quantitative methods. She began her studies at Jadavpur University in Kolkata, West Bengal, India where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics.

After completing her master’s, Dr. Chakraborty worked in the software industry for three and a half years. She held several positions at Tech Mahindra starting as a Tech Associate and then promoted many times to reach Lead Program Developer.

Despite her success at Tech Mahindra, she decided to go back to school for her PhD in Operations and Information Management at the University of Connecticut School of Business. Dr. Chakraborty quickly transitioned into her role at McCoy College after graduation.

“When I came for the interview, I really liked my future colleagues,” said Dr. Chakraborty. “I felt like they were very supportive, and that is still very true.”

Her research projects while at McCoy College include studies on internet accessibility to information on COVID-19, data quality in the healthcare sector, and consumer decisions to invest in extended car warranty.

Dr. Chakraborty’s strength is working with large datasets, and she has nearly 10 years’ experience in data mining and analysis. Her most recent project, published in Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, deals with terms of service clauses that can be misleading and unfriendly to consumers when online shopping.

“We have come up with an automated system that will read a terms of service agreements on behalf of the consumers,” said Dr. Chakraborty. “That gives us an opportunity to make them aware, and then they can decide if they want to proceed with those companies. This research is both from the consumer perspective as well as business perspective.”

When she is not teaching or conducting research, Dr. Chakraborty enjoys painting and likes to work in a pointillism style. Her favorite things to paint are mandalas and scenes of nature; however, she also her hands full nowadays with a 7-month-old in the house. She is also fond of the scenery around central Texas and likes to explore the area with her husband, especially around Canyon Lake. ✯
