McCoy College Hosts Feed The Funnel Event

As part of McCoy College’s 50th anniversary celebration, the college wanted to celebrate this milestone with not only the Bobcat community, but the San Marcos community as a whole. It was vital to give back to the city that has provided so much support over the last 50 years.
While teaching the fundamentals of business is an important lesson for students, business schools are also called to demonstrate the importance of social responsibility. It is with that spirit in mind that McCoy College decided to partner with The Pack Shack and H-E-B to host a Feed the Funnel party for faculty, staff and students. This event was put together to help pack shelf-stable meals to donate to Hays County Food Bank.
The response was overwhelming with over 90 McCoy College students, faculty and staff members answering the call to volunteer. 20,000 meals for Hays County Food Bank and Bobcat Bounty were packed by all these amazing individuals. Not only were students, faculty and staff ready to step up to the challenge but they exceeded the goal by over 500 meals.
When planning the Feed the Funnel event, organizers in McCoy College knew it would have a significant impact on our local community, however, they had no idea how timely the donation would be. Within a week of providing these packaged meals, the COVID-19 pandemic forced many restaurants, business and schools to close their doors to the public, leaving many individuals unsure of what the next few weeks would look like.
Celeste Ceniseros, Community Relations Coordinator for Hays County Food Bank says they have seen a 287% increase in new clients since the first COVID-19 stay-at-home orders were issued. She noted that the 20,000 meals donated by McCoy College have been a blessing, providing nutritious, healthy meals to all of the families they serve.
While the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many, McCoy College is happy to know we were able to contribute in a positive way to our community’s efforts during this tough time.
If you are interested in supporting Bobcat Bounty at this time, you can donate directly to the Hays County Food Bank so that they can purchase food and supplies for clients facing food insecurity throughout the county.
