Vallie Figueroa

Valerie "Vallie" Figueroa is the Communications Specialist at the McCoy College of Business. She is an experienced digital media professional with a diverse background in social media management, influencer marketing, ad campaign management, radio, content development, and multimedia journalism. Her professional foundation has been developed by hands-on experience across various media channels and a passion for digital storytelling and effective communication strategies.

In her previous role as staff writer and editor, Vallie enhanced McCoy College’s communications and grew its visibility across digital platforms through digital storytelling. She has worked on various initiatives highlighting the college’s programs, faculty research, and student success, including her work on McCoy’s online magazine and the McCoy College Newsroom. She also has years of experience in academic and professional settings as a skilled multimedia journalist and excels in creating impactful and engaging content.

Vallie earned her B.S. in Electronic Media and M.A. in Mass Communication from Texas State University, where she was recognized for her academic achievements as a member of the College of Fine Arts and Communications Council of Scholars. She is also a proud member of Kappa Tau Alpha, the prestigious national honor society that celebrates academic excellence and fosters scholarship in journalism and mass communication.

She has developed her professional experience in digital spaces as a staff writer and editor at McCoy College, social media manager for a global enterprise, contributor to the SXSW student content team, and host of a radio show on KTSW-89.9. She is inspired by evolving digital formats, including innovative storytelling techniques, communication trends, and the dynamic nature of digital platforms. Her goal is to combine her expertise in social media with her journalism background to create engaging and impactful multimedia stories for digital platforms, supporting McCoy College’s mission and amplifying its reach. ✯
