Merit/Performance Policy
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to explain McCoy College’s policy concerning the awarding of merit pay raises. This policy should be viewed as the minimum requirements for the McCoy College; individual academic departments may include additional criteria for determining meritorious faculty and those eligible for pay increases.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The McCoy College adheres to the definition of merit raises as described in AA/PPS 04.01.50, “Procedures for Awarding Faculty Merit Raises.” See AA/PPS 04.01.50 for the current definition of merit raises and for the basic procedures for awarding these raises. Merit raises are subject to the availability of funds for such raises.
PROCEDURES
1. In determining merit pay raises, department chairs and other evaluators will consider a faculty member’s relevant performance-related materials and documentation using the evaluation processes outlined in CBAPPS 5.01, “Faculty Evaluation” and AA/PPS 04.01.50 (7.10) Procedures for Awarding Faculty Merit Raises.”
2. Each department will establish clear guidelines linking the workload policy and the evaluation process so that merit is awarded based on percentages chosen by or assigned to the faculty member.
3. Each department chair will make recommendations to the college dean for merit raises, and to communicate the funding needed for the raises. The dean may accept or reject the recommendations of the department chair and will provide explanations of any rejected recommendations to the chair.
4. Faculty may appeal merit awards through the grievance procedures outlined by the Faculty Handbook and AA/PPS 04.01.50 (7.10) Procedures for Awarding Faculty Merit Raises.

This CBAPPS has been approved by the reviewers listed below and represents the McCoy College of Business policy and procedure from the date of the document until superseded.
