GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The 60th Legislature of the State of Texas authorized a Developmental Leave Program “as part of the plan of compensation for the faculty." A tenured faculty member is eligible to apply for a Developmental Leave after at least six consecutive years of service at Texas State.
2. Generally, applicants request developmental leaves in order to maintain their academic effectiveness, to undertake research or to prepare for publication the results of research previously conducted, or to undertake activities for professional improvement. Developmental leaves are not available to support completion of a faculty members’ first terminal degree.
3. Faculty members may request the leave for one academic year at one-half of their full regular salary or for one-half academic year at their full regular salary. Recipients must sign a legal agreement to serve one full year at Texas State after completion of the leave. In most cases, departments involved assume the faculty members' loads; however, in unusual circumstances replacement with part-time faculty may be allowed.
4. See the Faculty Senate website and AAPPS 8.02 for dates and other information.
