April Hernandez Castillo's life is one of triumph. As one of Hollywood’s most respected Latina actors, she has appeared in numerous roles, gaining acclaim for her powerful portrayal as “Eva Benitez” in the hit movie Freedom Writers, alongside Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank.

In addition to film, April’s experience includes roles on numerous popular television series, such as ER, Law & Order, 30 Rock, Dexter, New Amsterdam, Feed the Beast, Prodigal Son, and Gossip Girl. She has also appeared as a co-host on ABC’s daytime talk show, The View.

April’s dream to work in the entertainment industry became a reality when she booked a national commercial for Visa. The commercial—starring Yao Ming and Yogi Berra—went on to air during the Super Bowl and became recognized as a sports classic.

Growing up in the tough streets of the Bronx, April has faced and overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges. From the perils of living in a neighborhood plagued by the drug epidemic to surviving an abusive relationship, her life is one of resilience, overcoming adversity, and choosing to move forward no matter what happens.
